Perfect Weekend

My perfect weekend is hanging out with family and friends, especially when we have painting competitions or play taboo!

I’m from Lagos, Nigeria!

Fun Fact

I have a record label @Goldmarkist! We produce gospel music and spoken word. Our songs are available on all major platforms.

Happiest Place

I’m happy a lot and location does not influence that. When I'm happy, I dance freely and carelessly, sing with family or in the choir, and express gratitude to loved ones!

What is your name and pronouns?

Tomi Aroge, she/her

What is your job position?

I'm a Director in the Saitsa Board of Directors!

How long have you been at Saitsa?

I started 9 months ago, back in the summer of 2021!

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The people. I get to connect with a lot of students, learn from fellow board members, as well as Faculty and Saitsa staff. It’s been an incredible journey!

What is your education and work background?

All over the place! I’ve attended the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, Athabasca University, Mount Royal University and now I'm at SAIT in the Information Systems Security program. My time at each school brought upon new challenges and unique experiences. It’s been fun!

In terms of my work background, it varies. I’m passionate about education! Whether that's in the corporate work setting, post-secondary education, or working with kids. I’ve been a part of a number of opportunities along those lines.

Why did you choose to work for Saitsa?

As someone that has been in school for 8 years and counting, I’ve noticed that students can find it challenging to make their voices heard when faced with challenges.

I joined Saitsa so I could be that voice for them. I want to help and support fellow students, but most importantly, help students navigate the transition from school to the workplace.

I serve by helping students gain the knowledge and skills they need to be successful afterwards!

What advice do you have for new SAIT students?

A few things! Don’t wait until you’re done your program to seek work opportunities. Your time at SAIT is more than just getting good grades. Seek out opportunities – there is always so much to learn!

Why should students get to know Saitsa?

Besides taking advantage of the Saitsa Health and Dental plan, students should participate in a myriad of opportunities by volunteering, joining a club, or becoming a Director in the Board of Directors. The skills and experience you gain from engaging in this way are invaluable!
