How to Start a Club

Are you looking at making your post-secondary experience as awesome as possible?  One of the easiest ways is to join a club.  We’ve got a list of them here.

If you don’t see a club that appeals to you, or you want to take a larger role, you can always start up a club.  It’s really easy, we’ve even got some steps for you! Best of all, SAITSA has a ton of resources dedicated to clubs. We can help you book and host events, and we have dedicated funding available for some events as well.

How to Start a Club

1. Decide what you want to make your club about.  It could be academic based (around your program) or socially based (around your interests).  We take all kinds of clubs here.

2. Find some other people to start up the club with you.  It’s hard to have a club of one person, so you need to find at least one other person to get the club started. But the more the better, of course!

3. Come down to V204 in the Campus Centre and pick up a club registration package or access the package here.  Questions? Ask to talk to Caroline (the VP Student Life).  If she’s around, she’ll walk you through how to go through the registration package. If she’s not around, leave your info and she’ll set up an appointment with you!

4. Fill it out.  It’s pretty self-explanatory.  The hardest part is the club constitution.  It’s where you explain what your club is all about and how you’ll run.

5. Bring in all the documentation to V204. Caroline will make sure everything is in order.

6. Congratulations, you’ve created a club!  Time for a high-five!

7. We’ll give you a club handbook that explains all the details on how to plan events, apply for funding and book space on campus.  The whole SAITSA team is here to help you out!

8. Have fun!
